Job Title: Assistant Shop Manager
Job Type: 700-hour contract-to-hire
Day Shift: 6:00 AM – 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday (occasional Saturdays)
Job Summary:
We’re looking for a motivated and hands-on Assistant Shop Manager to help support our General Manager in the daily operations of our manufacturing shop. This role is key to keeping things running smoothly—supporting the team, helping with inspections, and maintaining a high standard of quality and productivity.
Relevant Background:
This position is well-suited for someone with up to 2 years of experience in inspection or CNC machining, especially checking parts for defects. Some leadership or supervisory experience is a plus but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the General Manager with coordinating the shop floor and daily operations
Maintain clear and supportive communication with the shop team
Support quality control efforts by helping inspect and measure parts
Use visual and precision inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, Keyence, gauges, etc.)
Help document and report on inspection and quality checks
Ensure team members understand and follow instructions on jobs
Prioritize tasks and flag potential production issues early
Support employee morale and help foster a team-oriented culture
Monitor job progress, identify roadblocks, and help keep things moving
Make sure employees are focused and productive throughout the day
Verify outgoing jobs meet quality standards before shipping
Oversee incoming and outgoing shipments and ensure accuracy
Support the General Manager in the grinding, assembly, and small parts departments
Assist with inventory control of raw materials and finished products
Suggest improvements to increase efficiency and reduce production costs
Help with tooling selection and purchasing for CNC operations
Identify and recognize strong team members for further development
Operate a forklift (Hi-lo license required)
Communicate with outside vendors when needed
Track performance metrics tied to ISO-9001:2015 objectives
Compensation:
Pay will be based on experience
Qualifications:
Prior experience in a machine shop or manufacturing setting
Experience with inspections or CNC part checking (1–2 years preferred)
Ability to read blueprints and use precision measurement tools
Some supervisory or team lead experience is a bonus
Hi-lo (forklift) license required
Strong organizational and time management skills
Willingness to learn and grow into the role
