Job Overview
The Plastics Manufacturing Engineer will lead plastics manufacturing technology projects, champion Lean Manufacturing teams and standardization projects through designing, implementing, and reviewing the procedures involved in manufacturing processes. An emphasis on researching automation techniques to maximize the efficiency of production lines and planning factory layouts that optimize how products are made across entire facilities or warehouses, with multiple departments making up one system simultaneously.
They will also provide support to all functional areas (Design, Engineering, Program Management, Manufacturing, Sales, and Quality) where manufacturing technology expertise is required.
Required Experience
BSME and 5+ years’ experience
Extensive experience in tool and manufacturing process development with knowledge of CAD and functional expertise in application of GD&T
Self-motivated with good written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations
Ability to lead and function in a team environment, while effectively communicating across various levels of the organization
Preferred Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
Six Sigma Green Belt
Tasks to be performed
Manage new process development projects and coordinate activities with various internal & external customers
Develop manufacturing process designs and coordinate with tooling and equipment sources for construction & validation
Drive standardization by use of Best Methods teams, benchmarking, and setting process standards
Champion benchmarking initiatives and integrate their findings into appropriate areas
Champion APQP documents including Process Flow Diagrams, Process FMEA’s, and Control Plans
Lead capital and tooling specification, quotes, acquisitions, analysis and strategies
Determine parts and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specification
Assist manufacturing facilities in design and applications of gages and fixtures
Interface with suppliers and research development centers to research and develop new product and process design and technology concepts
Maximize efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and workforce utilization
Evaluate manufacturing processes based on quality criteria, such as efficiency and speed
Study production and machine requirements
Develop and test effective automated and manual systems
Understand customer packaging requirements and work with Plant to implement
Help design packaging for production and WIP
Work in customer portal to upload packaging requirements
Integrate disparate systems (e.g. equipment handling, transport)
Optimize facility layouts, production lines, machine operations, and network performance
Resolve issues and delays in production
Find ways to reduce costs and maximize quality
Train staff in new and existing processes
Collaborate with other engineers, contractors, and suppliers
Support customer teams with quotes, designs, VA/VE initiatives and technical presentations
Provide technical support and assistance to the manufacturing, quality, development, and program staffs
Support TS16949, ISO14001, APQP, and other applicable procedures and policies
Develop, evaluate, and drive improvement in Manufacturing process methods and procedures
Participate in Program Launch meetings and be a part of prototype and production manufacturing runs
Provide input for design for manufacturability, process yield and capacity
Support current systems (BOM Maintenance, MRP, ECN’s) Epicor a plus
Become subject matter expert in customer and product requirements for Manufacturing
Support compliance with Quality Policies
Support corporate continuous improvement initiative
