Job Summary:
A Cost Estimator in the Automotive Plastics Injection Molding industry plays a key role in analyzing production costs and supporting competitive, profitable pricing. This position is responsible for developing accurate cost estimates for new and existing products by evaluating materials, labor, and overhead related to plastic injection molding processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze customer requirements and create detailed cost estimates for molded parts and tooling.

  • Evaluate material costs, cycle times, cavitation rates, and machine burden rates to optimize pricing.

  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to assess manufacturability and cost implications.

  • Research and negotiate with suppliers for raw materials and outsourced services to ensure cost efficiency.

  • Prepare and present detailed cost estimate reports for management.

  • Monitor market trends and adjust estimates to ensure continued accuracy.

  • Maintain organized records of estimates and ensure data integrity.

  • Provide internal technical support related to cost analysis.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred. Candidates with relevant industry experience in a similar role will also be considered.

  • Minimum of 3 years of cost estimating experience in the plastics injection molding industry.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • High attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.

  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (such as Epicor) and Microsoft Office 365.

  • Effective communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business needs.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with cycle time calculations and optimizing machine burden rates.

  • Knowledge of cost-saving strategies and industry trends.

  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and global trade concepts (e.g., VAT numbers, Harmonized Tariff Codes, Incoterms).

  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
