Overhead Systems Engineer

Troy, MI

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Overhead System Engineer with specific expertise in interior headliner systems. This individual will play a critical role in launching a new headliner commodity within our organization. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in headliner design, tooling, manufacturing, and assembly integration, and is capable of leading large-scale programs in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage headliner program(s) from concept through launch, ensuring alignment with engineering, manufacturing, and customer requirements.

  • Apply expertise in headliner design, tooling, and assembly processes to develop robust and cost-effective solutions.

  • Work closely with internal teams including engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to support program objectives.

  • Support the development and integration of new headliner products within the company’s broader interior systems portfolio.

  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert for all aspects of headliner systems.

  • Drive continuous improvement in design and manufacturing processes related to overhead systems.

Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree (Mechanical, Manufacturing, or similar) preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Strong background in automotive interiors, with a focus on headliner assemblies.

  • Experience in design, tooling, manufacturing, and assembly of headliner systems.

  • Proven ability to manage complex programs and interface with cross-functional teams.

  • Hands-on, collaborative approach with strong communication and leadership skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Program Management experience within the automotive industry.

  • Exposure to launching new commodities or systems into production.

  • Familiarity with OEM and Tier 1 supplier processes and standards.
