Controls Technician - 2nd Shift

Job Title: Controls Technician
Pay: $26.00 – $38.00 per hour
Shift: 2nd Shift | Full-Time | 40 hours/week | Overtime expected
Type: 90-day contract-to-hire


Purpose:
Seeking a Controls Technician to support 2nd shift operations. This role installs, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems on industrial machinery and production equipment. Responsibilities include maintaining equipment such as assembly cells, conveyor systems, robots, test stands, and other production machinery.


Key Responsibilities:

  • PLC and robot programming/troubleshooting

  • Diagnose issues using HMI or PLC (Allen Bradley RS Logix 500 and 5000) or robot controller

  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to resolve machinery issues

  • Prepare facility for new equipment installations and remove obsolete machinery

  • Plan and install control panel wiring for robots, conveyors, vision systems, pneumatic/hydraulic controls, VFDs, and programmable controllers

  • Use PLC and HMI to troubleshoot production and assembly equipment

  • Create backups of programs, parameters, and machine data

  • Replace faulty components (relays, switches, motors, sensors, etc.)

  • Source and install necessary replacement parts

  • Adjust and test equipment for proper functionality

  • Use hand and power tools (drills, grinders, saws, pipe benders, etc.)

  • Follow Lock Out Tag Out procedures

  • Submit purchase requisitions for equipment or parts

  • Support mechanical repair efforts when needed

  • Perform scheduled Preventive Maintenance

  • Handle other facility maintenance tasks as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent technical training, or two years of relevant experience

  • Advanced knowledge in PLCs (Allen Bradley RS Logix 500/5000), robotics, pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical, and mechanical systems

  • Ability to read blueprints, maintenance instructions, safety rules, and procedural documents

  • Experience in writing routine reports and documenting maintenance activities

  • Required: PLC/HMI programming (Allen Bradley RS Logix 500/5000)

  • Preferred: Robot programming experience
