Utility Designer/Planner

Job Title: Utility Designer/Planner
Job Type: Full-Time

Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Utility Designer/Planner to join our team! This role is responsible for providing utility design services and solutions to accurately construct overhead and underground power distribution systems. The ideal candidate will be proficient with computer-based design software, understand utility standards, and be able to support both internal and external clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Select and interpret data using map-based platforms (e.g., ESRI, Google Earth).

  • Perform field inspections of overhead and underground construction for compliance with standards.

  • Advise customers and contractors regarding service requirements for secondary systems.

  • Write construction orders for overhead and underground secondary jobs.

  • Negotiate with residential and commercial customers when required.

  • Participate in meetings, provide advice on products and services, and support employee training.

  • Develop appropriate design solutions based on overhead distribution specifications.

  • Conduct research, site visits, and support scoping of jobs.

  • Prepare proposals, presentations, and work unit policies/procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager.

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; coursework in drafting/CAD, basic electricity, physics, mathematics (geometry/trigonometry/technical math) preferred.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in electrical utility planning if education requirements are not fully met.

  • Experience with overhead/underground power distribution design preferred.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil3D; experience with ESRI, ArcGIS, MicroStation preferred.

  • Knowledge of engineering document production and relationship between drawings and specifications preferred.

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

  • Primarily office-based with occasional field visits.

  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, and building programs.

  • Ability to travel as needed for field inspections.
