Job Title: Die Setter – 1st, 2nd & 3rd Shift (Contract-to-Hire)
Location: North Vernon, IN
Pay Rate: Up to $34/hour (based on experience; shift differentials included)
Shifts & Hours:
  • 1st Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM | Up to $33/hour
  • 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM | Up to $34/hour (includes $1 shift differential)
  • 3rd Shift: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM | Up to $33.75/hour (includes $0.75 shift differential)
    Contract Duration: 6 months (contract-to-hire based on performance and business needs)
Job Summary:
We are seeking experienced Die Setters to join our on-site manufacturing team. This role is essential to the production of high-quality powder metal parts. Candidates must have hands-on experience with powder metal compacting and mechanical/hydraulic press operation, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all safety mechanisms are functioning before operating presses and follow safety guidelines.
  • Install and set up tooling: Assemble, troubleshoot, and calibrate die cavities, punches, and core rods.
  • Operate presses: Adjust settings for pressure, compaction speed, and dwell time to meet part specifications.
  • Inspect compacted parts for dimension, weight, and density, making adjustments as needed.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues; stop production if parts are nonconforming.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including quantity, scrap, suspect material, and adjustments.
  • Perform daily 5S activities (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain).
  • Assist with sorting and rework of discrepant preforms or forgings.
  • Participate in maintenance activities and contribute to process improvement projects.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Powder metal experience (mandatory; 3–5+ years depending on shift)
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical/hydraulic presses, preferably Cincinnati 550-ton press.
  • Knowledge of metal forging processes, die setup, and material flow.
  • Familiarity with metallurgical properties of ferrous and non-ferrous powders and forgings.
  • Blueprint reading and understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Competency with quality inspection tools such as micrometers, hardness testers, or CMM.
  • Shift flexibility, including weekends as required.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Analytical skills and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Experience with robot-assisted presses or automation.
  • Manufacturing experience in metal forging.
Physical Requirements:
  • On-site role requiring active participation on the plant floor.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks, lift materials, and work safely around press equipment.
Additional Information:
This is a 6-month contract-to-hire role. Pay is based on experience and performance. Only candidates with powder metal experience should apply. The 2nd and 3rd shift pay rates include their respective shift differentials.
