School Social Worker – Charter School

$60,000–$65,000 annually

Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated School Social Worker to join our charter school team. In this role, you will support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success of students by providing intervention services, crisis support, case management, and connections to community resources. You will work closely with students, families, teachers, administrators, and outside agencies to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.

The ideal candidate is passionate about student advocacy, crisis intervention, and helping students overcome barriers to academic and personal success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group support to students experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, or family-related challenges. 
  • Conduct assessments to identify student needs and develop intervention plans that promote student success. 
  • Provide crisis intervention and support for students experiencing emotional, behavioral, or family crises. 
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, psychologists, and support staff to develop student support plans. 
  • Build positive relationships with parents and guardians by providing guidance, resources, and ongoing communication. 
  • Coordinate referrals to community agencies, mental health providers, and social service organizations as needed. 
  • Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and outside agencies to ensure students receive appropriate services. 
  • Conduct home visits when appropriate to gather information and support student success. 
  • Assist with child welfare concerns and fulfill all mandated reporting responsibilities in accordance with state and federal regulations. 
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential student records in compliance with district policies and applicable laws. 
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, student support teams, and IEP meetings as needed. 
  • Support school-wide social-emotional learning (SEL), parent engagement initiatives, and student intervention programs. 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and success of the charter school. 

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program. (preferred)
  • Michigan School Social Worker Approval through the Michigan Department of Education or eligibility to obtain approval. 
  • Completion of the required supervised social work practicum. 
  • Previous experience working with children, adolescents, or families in a school, charter school, community, behavioral health, or healthcare setting preferred. 
  • Knowledge of child development, trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and community resources. 
  • Understanding of mandated reporting requirements and child welfare procedures. 
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners. 
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and case management skills. 
  • Ability to remain calm, exercise sound judgment, and manage sensitive situations with professionalism and compassion.
