Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical/Design Engineer I to support the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems and components for a leading marine manufacturing organization.
Working under the direction of the Director of Engineering, this position will assist with new product development from concept through production, create and maintain 3-D CAD models and engineering drawings, perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and provide technical support to manufacturing, suppliers, and other internal departments.
The ideal candidate will have a mechanical engineering background, strong CAD skills, experience with product development, and an understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the development of new products from concept through production.
- Create detailed mechanical designs, engineering drawings, and 3-D CAD models.
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate designs and structural integrity.
- Optimize designs for manufacturing, assembly, quality, and performance.
- Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for drawings and assemblies.
- Provide detailed designs and technical support to vendors and subcontractors.
- Troubleshoot design-related production issues in collaboration with Process Engineering and Quality Control.
- Interface with suppliers to ensure proper product applications and installations.
- Participate in the development and testing of new products and prototypes.
- Support product upgrades and improvements after products enter production.
- Coordinate 3-D CAD models to ensure proper fit, interfaces, details, and completion.
- Develop detailed engineering drawings based on conceptual designs.
- Provide technical product support to the Service Department.
- Work closely with Sales, Production, Supply Management, Quality, and Engineering teams.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation and engineering files.
- Ensure projects and assigned tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Follow all company quality, safety, and operational procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in marine design and/or mechanical engineering.
- Experience with production processes and manufacturing environments.
- Strong background in computer-aided design (CAD) and engineering.
- Experience with 3-D modeling and detailed engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of FEA and structural analysis.
- Ability to develop and interpret Bills of Materials and engineering documentation.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Commitment to quality, engineering standards, and industry requirements.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively with employees, vendors, subcontractors, and other business partners.
- Must be a team player with strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based in a controlled environment.
- Minimal bending, stooping, walking, and stair climbing.
- Occasional lifting of moderately weighted items.
- Near vision or appropriate near-vision accommodation required.
- Must follow all applicable quality and safety standards.
Travel: Minimal travel required.
