Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Buyer – Aerospace to provide strategic oversight of our aerospace supply base and manage long-term supplier relationships for high-mix, low-volume production. This role will support aerospace programs with complex Bills of Materials, long lead times, and changing production requirements.
Our current team has three buyers, and we are looking to split and segregate responsibilities across the team. Candidates may be considered for multiple purchasing roles depending on their specific skill set.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the aerospace supplier base and long-term supplier relationships
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, terms, lead times, and supplier agreements
- Conduct supplier visits and maintain strong supplier relationships
- Manage purchasing requirements for high-mix, low-volume aerospace production
- Review and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Monitor long lead-time materials and proactively address potential supply issues
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure materials are available to support production schedules
- Evaluate supplier capacity, performance, delivery, and overall capabilities
- Identify and address supply chain risks related to changing requirements and long lead times
- Support strategic sourcing and supplier development initiatives
- Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier information within ERP systems
Qualifications
- Previous aerospace purchasing/buying experience preferred
- Experience managing high-mix, low-volume production requirements
- Extensive BOM experience
- Experience managing long lead times and variable production requirements
- Comfortable leading supplier negotiations
- Willingness and ability to conduct supplier visits
- Experience managing long-term supplier contracts
- Composite manufacturing/material experience is a plus
- ERP experience preferred; Epicor is not required
- Strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple suppliers, priorities, and changing requirements
