Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Buyer – Outsourced Machining to support outsourced machining and related manufacturing needs. This role will work closely with machining suppliers and internal teams to ensure the timely availability of cutting tools, turning services, coating, plating, and other outsourced requirements.
Our current team has three buyers, and we are looking to split and segregate responsibilities across the team. Candidates may be considered for multiple purchasing roles depending on their specific skill set.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage purchasing requirements for outsourced machining services
- Coordinate sourcing and purchasing for cutting tools, turning, coating, and plating
- Work directly with machining suppliers to support production requirements
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, terms, and supplier requirements
- Monitor supplier performance and address delivery or purchasing issues
- Coordinate with internal teams to understand machining and production needs
- Support supplier selection and relationship management
- Monitor material and service requirements to help prevent production delays
- Support Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) and managed replenishment initiatives
- Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier information
- Identify opportunities to improve supplier performance, cost, and material availability
Qualifications
- CNC machining background is required
- Previous purchasing or buying experience preferred
- Understanding of machining processes and manufacturing requirements
- Familiarity with cutting tools, turning, coating, and plating
- Experience working directly with machining suppliers is a plus
- VMI or managed replenishment experience strongly preferred
- Comfortable communicating with suppliers and internal manufacturing teams
- Strong organization and follow-through
- Ability to manage multiple suppliers and purchasing requirements
- ERP experience is a plus
