Job Type: Full-Time | On-Site | Direct Hire
Pay: $80,000–$85,000 annually, based on experience
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to support accounting, inventory control, and cost analysis within a manufacturing environment. This position will analyze production costs, inventory levels, and manufacturing variances while working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams.
The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of relevant experience, hands-on experience with SAP and ERP systems, and a strong understanding of manufacturing Bills of Materials (BOMs), inventory control, reconciliation, and cost accounting. This position offers growth potential for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and report manufacturing costs, inventory levels, and production variances.
- Monitor and report on material usage, labor efficiency, overhead, scrap, and other manufacturing variances.
- Compare actual costs against standard costs and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Manage, reconcile, and audit inventory for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
- Support inventory control, inventory valuation, material flow, and reconciliation.
- Prepare journal entries and assist with accurate COGS reporting.
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities.
- Reconcile inventory and accounting accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Partner with engineering and manufacturing teams to review and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and standard costs.
- Support cycle counts, physical inventory, and inventory audits.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and complete final reconciliation and reporting.
- Assist with financial reporting and special accounting projects.
- Identify opportunities to improve cost accounting processes, inventory accuracy, and overall operational efficiency.
- Support annual financial planning, fixed assets, tax reporting, and cost analysis as needed.
- Prepare reports and provide management with accurate financial and operational information.
- Work with accounting and manufacturing teams to ensure accurate and timely data.
- Provide backup support to general accounting functions when needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of relevant accounting/cost accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- SAP experience required.
- Must be well-versed in ERP systems.
- Experience with inventory control and inventory reconciliation.
- Experience analyzing manufacturing costs and variances.
- Experience working with Engineering and Manufacturing BOMs.
- Understanding of material, labor, overhead, scrap, and standard costing.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to analyze financial and manufacturing data and communicate findings clearly.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with SAP in a manufacturing or production setting.
- Experience working directly with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams.
- Experience with standard costing, BOMs, routings, inventory valuation, and manufacturing variances.
- CPA is a plus.
