Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher – Emotional Impairment to provide specialized instruction and support to students with emotional impairments. The teacher will create a structured, supportive learning environment while developing instruction that addresses students' academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs.
This is a long-term contract position with the potential to continue year after year, providing an opportunity for stability and continued work within a school environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialized instruction to students identified with Emotional Impairment (SE)
- Develop and implement individualized instructional strategies based on student needs
- Follow and implement student IEPs and individualized educational goals
- Monitor and document student academic, behavioral, social, and emotional progress
- Create a structured, safe, and supportive classroom environment
- Implement appropriate behavior management and intervention strategies
- Modify curriculum, assignments, and instructional methods to support individual student needs
- Collaborate with special education staff, general education teachers, counselors, administrators, and other support personnel
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student progress and educational needs
- Maintain accurate student records and required special education documentation
- Participate in IEP meetings and other student support meetings as required
- Support students in developing appropriate social-emotional, behavioral, and academic skills
- Identify student challenges and work with the appropriate school personnel to develop effective interventions
- Follow school policies, procedures, and applicable special education requirements
Qualifications
- Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate certification for Emotional Impairment
- T2EA certification accepted
- Experience working with students with emotional impairments or behavioral needs preferred
- Knowledge of special education practices and instructional strategies
- Understanding of IEPs and individualized instruction
- Ability to develop and implement behavioral and academic interventions
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively with students, families, teachers, counselors, and administrators
- Patient, flexible, and student-focused approach
- Ability to create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
