NAVSEA Qualified Welder – Shipbuilding / Defense
Pay: Based on experience

Position Summary

We are seeking experienced NAVSEA Qualified Welders with current or recent production welding experience supporting U.S. Navy, shipbuilding, submarine, maritime, or defense manufacturing programs.

Candidates must have actual production welding performed under NAVSEA-controlled requirements and be able to identify their applicable welding processes, materials, positions, thickness ranges, and prior qualification records.

Responsibilities

  • Perform production welding in accordance with approved NAVSEA welding requirements and WPS procedures 
  • Weld components and assemblies for naval, maritime, submarine, shipbuilding, or defense applications 
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings, welding symbols, and specifications 
  • Prepare joints and complete accurate fit-up before welding 
  • Control welding processes, parameters, and heat input as required 
  • Perform welds to required quality and inspection standards 
  • Identify and correct welding or fabrication issues 
  • Maintain required welding documentation and qualification records 
  • Follow all safety, quality, and defense manufacturing procedures 

Required Qualifications

  • Previous production welding performed under NAVSEA-controlled fabrication requirements 
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248 or other applicable NAVSEA welding requirements 
  • Ability to provide welder qualification records or other documented evidence of previous qualification when permitted 
  • Experience working from approved WPS/welding procedures 
  • Ability to read fabrication drawings and welding symbols 
  • Knowledge of joint preparation, fit-up, process control, weld quality, and inspection requirements 
  • Previous welding qualification relevant to the specific work being performed 

Welding Processes

Experience with one or more of the following is preferred:

  • SMAW 
  • GMAW 
  • FCAW 
  • GTAW 
  • Qualified combination procedures 

Preferred Background

  • Naval shipyard experience 
  • Navy subcontractor experience 
  • Submarine manufacturing 
  • Surface-ship construction 
  • Maritime fabrication 
  • Defense manufacturing 
  • Experience maintaining welder qualification and continuity records 
  • NDT familiarity 
  • Supporting AWS qualifications
