Accounting Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Manager for our client to oversee the financial
operations of their private club. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, finance, and hospitality. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial
records, managing accounts payable/receivable, preparing financial reports, and assisting in budgeting and forecasting. This position requires excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills to manage financial processes efficiently in a dynamic, member-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Analysis:
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements).
  • Analyze financial performance, identifying trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting in compliance with accounting standards and club policies.
 

Accounts Payable & Receivable Management:

  • Oversee and manage the accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
  • Assist in the review of vendor contracts, negotiate payment terms, and ensure the timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Monitor club member accounts, including dues, billing, and collections.
 

Budgeting & Forecasting:

  • Assist in the development of the annual budget, working closely with department heads to allocate resources and plan for the club’s financial goals.
  • Prepare financial forecasts and track performance against the budget, making recommendations for adjustments as needed.
 

Cash Flow Management:

  • Manage the club’s cash flow, ensuring sufficient funds for day-to-day operations and capital expenditures.
  • Implement and monitor cash management procedures to optimize liquidity.
 

Internal Controls & Compliance:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard the club’s assets.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local tax laws, as well as club-specific financial policies.
 

Payroll Processing & Employee Benefits:

  • Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accurate and timely payment to staff.
  • Assist third-party vendors with administering employee benefits programs, including health insurance and retirement plans.
 

Annual Statements & Tax Support:

  • Assist in the preparation of annual audits/reviews and provide necessary documentation to external auditors.
  • Coordinate the filing of tax returns with external accountants and ensure compliance with all tax regulations.
 

Hospitality-Specific Financial Management:

  • Provide financial oversight for the club's hospitality operations, including food and beverage, events, and member services.
  • Work closely with the Chief Financial and Operating Officer (CFOO) to monitor profitability and improve cost controls for hospitality-related functions.

Team Management & Collaboration:

  • Lead, mentor, and train accounting staff, ensuring they adhere to best practices and club policies.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative working environment within the finance department and across the club.
 

Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is a plus. Will consider candidates with a progressive private club or hospitality finance experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a managerial role within the private club, hospitality, or related industry.
  • Strong understanding of hospitality operations.
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Jonas, or similar).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial reporting tools.
 
  • Experience with working with external accountants.
 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and financial regulations.
  • Experience with payroll systems, employee benefits, and tax filings.
 

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • The role requires the ability to work in an office setting, with occasional requirements for walking throughout the club's facilities.
  • The work environment is dynamic, requiring adaptability and responsiveness to the needs of the private club's members and staff.
