Field Utility Specialist (Tri Cities of MI)

JOB SUMMARY:
This specific position will be based in THE TRI CITIES OF MI. We are a multifaceted utility and telecommunications engineering firm serving clients throughout the Midwest. The Field Utility Specialist is responsible for conferring with office staff (utility planners, consultants and/or engineers to understand the scope and requirements for a project while physically inspecting gas, electric, and other data utility systems and associated materials and components. This position requires a disciplined candidate that can use GIS data collection systems, IKE Pole Forman, Ike Office, utilizing web-based systems, and providing detailed data from multiple locations daily. This position may require overnight travel (scheduled in advance). A company vehicle, computer, phone, and PPE will be provided.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Physical inspection of gas, electric, data utility systems and associated materials and components.
Contact customers to inform them of any temporary loss of service to perform upgrades and install new facilities such as Power company Service meters.
Maintenance and replacement of Power company facilities to include DTE Meters on both residential and commercial locations.
Prepare sketches, locate and document required information electronically.
Application and analysis of standards and authorities, plans and specifications provided by designers and engineers. Responsible for knowing and complying with owner, MES, and MIOSHA site safety rules and regulations always.
Conferring with utility planners, consultants and/or engineers, to gain an understanding of the scope and requirements of a project.
Accurately measuring, documenting, recording, evaluating, and assessing existing utility structures.
Other duties as assigned by Project Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma and/or equivalent combination of education & experience.
Minimum two (2) years applicable experience working with construction, engineering, or facilities maintenance.
Required to have satisfactory results on a Motor Vehicle Record check and maintain a valid driver's license.
Excellent attendance is required.
Professional communication skills are required.
OSHA confined space training certification preferred.
Ability to understand basic principles of public and private utilities.
Ability to learn and understand civil, structural, electrical, and communication systems and structures.
Compliance and knowledge of OSHA and site safety rules.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Primarily work outdoors, must be able to work in extreme heat and cold.
Regularly required to walk for long distances.
Frequently lifts or moves objects up to 50 pounds.
Climb ladders, access and inspect utility infrastructure and cables by climbing down through manhole covered areas
Travel within the Midwest States (Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, and Wisconsin).
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Compensation ranges between $17.00 to $22.00 per hour, depending on experience.
